The Lyle Life Saving Cannon in Bronze
David A. Lyle was not the first person to think of using a firearm to throw a line to rescue people threatened with death on a sinking ship. Lyle's contribution came in refining the design and creating a pattern adopted by the US as an official item of equipment. His line-throwing guns worked efficiently when handled properly and were the gun of choice for some seventy years.
Lyle Life Saving Cannon features a Bronze Gun (circa 1879) with an iron bound oak carriage. It was the only life saving gun featuring this lightweight/maximum strength carriage. Our authentic scale model depicts this unique carriage design in exacting detail.
